Everything Green

In the spirit of St. Patty’s Day, I wanted to write about the magic of green super foods.

I recently started working for a company called Amazing Grass and I cannot rave enough about this product! They are a wheat grass company based out of San Fransisco (yay!) and their superfood makes me SO happy!

A green superfood is a powder that contains all your essential leafy greens and then some. Amazing Grass has 3 products I want to share with you. They all contain organic ingredients, are gluten free, vegan, have no soy lecithin fillers, and are extremely alkalizing for the body.

First, is their original Green Superfood. This powder comes in Original, Berry, Chocolate and a Kidz version. All very good! They each contain organic wheat grass, barley grass, alfalfa, spirulina, spinach, chlorella, and broccoli, as well as antioxidants including acai, maca (a natural adaptagen, helping the body combat stress), carrot, beet, raspberry, rose hips, pineapple, green tea and acerola cherry.

Now, in an ideal world, we would be eating all of these things on a regular basis, but let’s be realistic here, folks…

The powder makes it so incredibly easy to get all of that nutritive goodness in one drink (well, they recommend 3 servings per day, but still).

And not only does it have all the great grasses and antioxidants, but it also contains pro-biotics (F.O.S. and acidophilus), digestive enzymes (alpha and beta amylase, protease, lipase, lactase and cellulase) and fiber (from flax and apple pectin).

The Kidz powder has all the grasses that the others contain, but is flavored with natural, organic cocoa, and dutch chocolate. It does not contain the pro-biotic blend, but what it does contain is 33 fruits and veggies per serving and I swear, you would not even know it! I love the taste of the Kidz and sometimes drink that one myself! Who can’t use some more fruits and veggies as well?? The sugar content is ZERO, so no need to freak about giving little Johnny more of the sweet stuff. He probably gets enough already. This is just pure love, and honestly, when I demo it, kids LOVE it. No joke!

All you do is mix the powder with 4-8oz of your fave liquid. I tend to use almond milk and banana or berries, but you can keep it simple (by just using good, filtered water) or get crazy and make yourself a designer smoothie.

The green powder is ideal for anyone who wants to get more greens in their eating lifestyle (and who doesn’t need that?) in a very convenient way. It’s easy to take this on the go, so you workaholics, students or meal skippers have no excuses not to get your greens in.

Amazing Grass took all of the green superfood goodness and then designed another great product called Amazing Meal. Amazing Meal contains all the wonderful grasses, antioxidants, fiber, pro-biotics, etc but also contains hemp and rice protein sources, giving it 10g of protien per serving (about 32.6 gm). The Amazing Meal is a fantastic meal replacement if you add it to milk (anything to make the calorie count over 200 calories-by itself, 1 scoop contains only 110 cal) or any juice. This product comes in original and chocolate, but also a really tasty pomagranate mango (yum!).

The last product I want to mention is their Green SuperFood Whole Food Energy Bar. Now, I know there are a ton of energy bars on the market, but I stand behind this one because it has many highlights: it’s raw, organic, gluten free, has no added sugar, vegan, and cold pressed. WOW! What a bar! It contains the same grass blend as the green superfood, as well as cashews, almond butter, rice crisps, almonds, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, dried coconut and organic vanilla extract. The chocolate version is coated in a very thin layer of organic fair trade chocolate (organic, raw cocao) and that one also contains cocoa nibs. Both are very good and contain 230 calories which sounds high, but friends, think about where your calories come from. This is RAW, FOOD BASED bar. It’s not like eating a 230 calorie “meal” of a burger and fries at WackDonalds (and trust me, a meal like that would be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than 230 calories). This is bar to take on the go, if you are a student, if you are traveling, etc.

I cannot express how important it is to consume greens, friends. Numerous studies have been done connecting eating sufficient amounts of leafy greens and antioxidants with cancer prevention and body alkalinity. Amazing Grass’s superfood green powder serves as a nice little “insurance” policy for your body because I know all of you out there are probably eating tons of spinach, alfalfa and spirulina already, right? 😉
